05/04/25 Linocut printmaking, half-day workshop, 1–4pm
VENUE: Skirrid Studio, Glyneath House, HR2 0LD
COURSE TUTOR: Helen Arthur, printmaker and landscape painter
Helen runs Skirrid Studio & Gallery in Longtown and teaches both landscape painting and printmaking in various venues, including Ewyas Harold Craft Centre.
She began printmaking as a hobby in 2016 and began teaching in 2019. During lockdown she discovered a love for mixed media painting and began showing her work locally. Now her prints and paintings are collected internationally.
There’s 5 spaces for people to join her and make a 10 × 15cm linocut plate which you can ink up to take several ‘impressions’ on paper.
In this process you will transfer a bold design using tracing paper onto artists’ lino which is then carved using special gouges. Helen will help you with your design or you can bring an image, if you have one in mind. Simple patterns and designs work well. You will learn to think in reverse, as where you make a mark into the lino becomes white space on paper. And you get great results every time.
All materials and tools provided.
For safety reasons these sessions are restricted to people aged 10 years and older.
