22/03/25 ‘ ‘Botanical Pottery’ workshop, 2–4pm
VENUE: Craswall Village Hall
COURSE TUTORS: Corisande Albert & Gracie Price
Corisande makes wheel-thrown functional pottery in stoneware and porcelain from her pottery studio on the Cabalva Estate close to the river Wye. Alongside her own practice, Corisande loves to inspire and foster a supportive and joyful community of potters and enthusiasts. She and Gracie organise pottery courses and workshops for all ages and levels of experience.
You will work with flowers and herbs sourced directly from the garden at Cabalva, imprinting them into your clay and using them as inspiration for surface illustrations.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and those who want to learn more about the wonderful world of clay and surface decoration. You will learn the technique of sgraffito (scratching into a surface) to create carved botanical designs on a clay hanging ornament and dish. Then you will use slab building techniques to make a pressed flower vase out of air-drying clay.
Your vase can be taken home on the day. Your dish and ornament will be glazed and fired at Cabalva Ceramics. Work should be ready to collect (or post for a fee) in 6 to 8 weeks.
This workshop is more suitable for adults, any children joining must be supervised.
